HISTORIC KINSALE

After leaving Blarney we have a short 45 minute journey through the rolling hills and fertile farmland of West Cork while we drive to the historic seaport of Kinsale. Kinsale is famously known as 'The Gourmet capital of Ireland' due to the abundance of restaurants, cafes and pubs serving traditional Irish fare.

But that's not all;

Did you know that King Charles 2nd of England was proclaimed King of England here? Or that

William Penn Jnr. founder of Pennsylvania grew up here? Or that
the last Spanish Armada ever built sailed into Kinsale in 1601 to do battle with the English?

No!.. Well don't worry as most people don't either. So after you have enjoyed lunch and a leisurely stroll through one of Ireland's oldest towns we will take you on a tour of this beautiful port and tell you all about it's rich past of Norman Castles and still used 12th Century Norman church, and it's days of glory with Kings and great battles, including a visit to the magnificent Charles Fort built in 1677.

We now have a short journey of about 20 minutes back to the city and on the way we pass through the heart of the Irish countryside and it's quaint villages of Belgooly and Riverstick.
